Boutique hotel's stylish, sustainable bathroom concepts feature Duravit

The Peech boutique hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa, boasts sophisticated rooms and bathrooms.

Centrally located within the vibrant, upmarket suburb of Melrose in Johannesburg, The Peech embodies the quintessential boutique hotel experience, with its lush greenery, chic and cosy rooms, as well as intimate, personalised service.

Dating back to the 1950s, the hotel is named after current owner James Peech, who acquired the former private residence in 2002 and duly set about developing it into the charming accommodation it is today.

Sustainable design is at The Peech’s core, presented through unique and purposeful design elements in all of their spaces.

The hotel’s collaboration with Meshworks, the award-winning architecture studio, as well as design and furnishings partner Aparna Ramani, has yielded a tranquil, green refuge that masterfully blends tradition and modernity.

Spacious guest rooms and suites feature unique pieces designed and produced by a diverse collection of local artisans, from stonemasons to carpenters and upholsterers. Bathrooms, essential to self-care, have also been given special design attention.

A Space For Daily Rituals

Fittings and furnishings from Duravit form part of the durable design concept and were chosen for their high quality, sustainable design, and timeless aesthetics. These include sanitary ceramics, such as the striking DuraSquare washbasin by bathroom specialists from the Black Forest.

A precise, rectangular design on the outside slope into gentle, flowing lines inside the washbasin. The innovative DuraCeram® material — used to produce precise rims measuring just 0.2 inches thick — also gives it an elegantly weightless appearance when paired with the basin’s sleek metal console.

Console basins from the D-Neo bathroom range also feature in The Peech’s guest bathrooms, providing an interesting contrast between ceramics and wood materials. Doing away with faucet platforms, the basins come equipped with a smooth, polished underside that allows them to be placed directly on the wooden vanity unit.

The free-standing Starck bathtub by Philippe Starck allows a restorative space for guests to sink into and rejuvenate. And the elegant DuraStyle wall-mounted toilet rounds off the exclusive bathroom design.
