Singapore Design Week returns from 21 September to 1 October 2023, with a slew of events, forums, and exhibitions aimed at showcasing Singapore’s extraordinary and distinctive brand of creativity and innovation in the design space.
This year’s 12-day celebration is doubly special, as festival organisers DesignSingapore Council (DSG) celebrates its 20th anniversary. Visitors can expect over 40 key festival highlights themed around DSG’s motto, “Better by Design”– showcasing the latest in design innovation as well as thought provoking insights into the evolution of design and its place in our collective future.
DESIGN FUTURES FORUM 2023
How can design help shape a better tomorrow? Are there ways for designers to help alleviate the negative human-driven impacts on the environment?
These questions and more will take center stage at the Design Futures Forum, a special edition event marking DSG’s 20th anniversary, as well as 20 years of the evolution of design and its potential as a powerful driver of impact across multiple areas.
Featuring a diverse line-up of speakers from Singapore and around the world, the forum will examine three key areas: the future of sustainability, emerging technology, and care. Dive into discussions on the crucial role of designers in improving areas such as work and travel, and get expert takes on concrete ways that design can be mobilised to shape a more inclusive and meaningful future. Among the speakers present are Shigeru Ban CEO of Shigeru Ban Architects, Catherine Loke President of The Circle for Human Sustainability and Tamsin Greulich-Smith Director, School of X, DesignSingapore Council.

FUTURE IMPACT
The Future Impact exhibition makes its way back to Singaporean shores after a highly successful showcase at the prestigious Milan Design Week in April this year. Local audiences will have a chance to see the works of six talented local designers, including Tiffany Loy, Nathan Yong, Forest & Whale, Viewport Studio, Gabriel Tan, and Studio Juju.
In line with themes of sustainability, expect creations that employ forward-thinking solutions that pair cutting-edge technology with poetic storytelling. Among them is multidisciplinary designer Nathan Yong’s Bent Onyx, which combines technology and traditional craftsmanship to transform onyx–a naturally brittle stone–into bold new shapes of furniture and interior objects; as well as Studio Juju’s OO Collection, the Dekton-crafted, abstract sculptural pieces designed to stoke the viewer's imagination.
Admission to the exhibition is free.
When: 20 September 2023 - 1 October 2023, 9AM - 9PM
Where: National Design Centre, Design Gallery 3, Level 1, 111 Middle Road, Singapore 188969
