Design Futures Forum Returns for Singapore Design Week 2024

From AI and spatial technologies to regenerative design, this year’s forum presents a melting pot of ideas and creative solutions for a better tomorrow.

Design Futures Forum returns this October, bringing together over 30 international and local thought leaders to explore the transformative power of design in shaping shared and resilient futures.

A highlight of the Singapore Design Week (SDW), the two-day forum is organised by the DesignSingapore Council (Dsg) and held from 1 to 2 October 2024 at the Victoria Theatre and The Arts House. This year’s expanded format will include keynotes, panel discussions, and interactive sessions revolving around the theme, “Designing Our Collective Future.”

Guided by three critical areas—Emerging Technologies, Sustainability, and Care—the forum will address how design can tackle complex global challenges. Notable speakers include Cathy Hackl, the acclaimed “godmother of the spatial web,” who will deliver insights into AI, spatial technologies, and the future of digital experiences.

The Sustainability segment, helmed by Aric Chen of Het Nieuwe Instituut, will underscore the urgency of bold regenerative practices in a rapidly changing world. Meanwhile, Tamsin Greulich-Smith, head of the DesignSingapore Council’s School of X, will lead discussions on how design is redefining healthcare systems and enhancing human well-being.

Day two will take these dialogues deeper with a series of targeted workshops and roundtable discussions led by industry pioneers, offering participants the chance to collaborate on tangible solutions. The Care segment, for example, will see design experts guiding participants through lively activities, from the co-creation of apparel, environments, and cultures, to team debates on effective design in care and its outcomes.
