Although better known as a couturier later in his career, Gianfranco Ferré was an architecture graduate from the Polytechnic University of Milan. This, along with the distinct style he developed, earned him the title ‘Architect of Fashion’, a legacy that lives on in the output of his namesake atelier, Gianfranco Ferré Home.
Fashion, architecture, and furniture design inform and inspire each other at Gianfranco Ferré Home. The atelier is fluent in the language of fashion design as can be seen in the use or suggestion of suiting materials — houndstooth, twill, pinstripes, Prince of Wales, nubuck, and others — as upholstery.
Detailing such as piping, manipulation of silhouette with padding, and holding up parts with belts may show up in couches. Meanwhile, tables and chairs may display the angles and elevations of an architectural piece.
Among the remarkable pieces from the current collection are the Phoenix, a three-seater sofa heaped with cushions, the smart Madison Armchair, the Rockefeller rectangular table, and Harlem Chair with armrest. For the bedroom there are the Broadway Double Bed and the Wynwood Night Table with a drawer.
Luxurious, well designed, and meticulously constructed, the latest collection is furniture’s answer to bespoke suits and couture apparel — it is current yet timeless.
