WHAT'S HOT

Issue 133's Editor Notes

Find out more about the latest hapenings in the world of design and architecture in Issue 133

The objectives of this magazine are changing. While it will continue to provide you with inspiring design – both architectural and interior, it will consistently go beyond doing just that. Alongside groundbreaking/breathtaking projects by leading or little-known design practices, you will find in the mix other forms of design – product, graphic, industrial, etc. – from areas where design and design thinking are bringing about important changes.

For instance, in this issue, you will find a review of the latest Range Rover Velar, first launched in mid-2017 and very recently given an update. You will also find an interview with Goh Boon Teck who did not only direct his own play Titoudao but also designed its production. You will learn from him, for instance, about the challenge of being butcher/baker/candlestick-maker in a space that benefits from inclusivity and collaboration.

We also inserted a few essays by fascinating design professionals Erik L’Heureux, Kelley Cheng, and Poon King Wang – no, not because we can, but because their perspectives bring something you can benefit from. We even flew Stephanie Hauger to Bali to talk to the last owner of Taman Bebek, that longstanding refuge of international creatives but is now, sadly, no more – a casualty of planning lapses.

But even bigger changes await in the back of the book where we have started a new section on Sourcing because that’s the missing link to our meaningful exchange.

For years, we’ve been providing you with inspiration: double-page spreads of dreamy interiors and fantabulous architectures – only to leave you high and dry. Well, no more. This time we’ll connect you with product suppliers and service providers through important and actionable information.

For now, we have three types of content in the Sourcing section: market survey, product review, and capability profile. We hope that your feedback will refine our offerings.

Finally, we are going to be more active online, bringing you fresh content that will not only inspire you, but inspire you to take action.
